Bubble wrap grew in popularity in the 1960s when IBM began using it to package computer products during the their transportation. By learning the right way to package products, you can protect fragile and valuable products during transportation, bubble wrap being a well-known but often misused. At it is, bubble wrap should be used for cushioning shocks during transportation, but many people like to use it for bursting air bubbles, (we're absolutely sure it's happened to you). (:
Difficulty: easy to use
Things you need:
- Scissors or a cutter
- Adhesive tape
Lay the bubble wrap bubble side up. You've most likely noticed that half of the foil is smooth and the other half has air bubbles. A common mistake made by users is to pack products with the bubble side on the outside and the smooth side on the products. Although this provides some protection for the items, it does not take full advantage of the properties of the bubble wrap.
Place the object above the bubble wrap. It must be placed on the bubble side. The reason is that air bubbles are like small cushions (made out of air pockets) for your object. Each bubble contains air, which protects the item if it moves during transportation. When the product is packed correctlybubbles completely surround it, thus minimizing all risks of damage. If the air bubbles were on the outside, on contact with other hard objects or sharp edges, the bubbles would burst, thus reducing the protection offered to the product.
Wrap the product several times. For example, if you are wrapping a photo frame with family pictures, you could cut a rectangular piece of bubblewrap. Place the longer side of the frame on the shorter side of the foil and hold them together. Now rotate the product, placing the foil uniformly, to the end of the bubble wrap. If you're wrapping a particularly valuable item, use another piece of bubble wrap to make sure the item is completely covered..
Pack the product as appropriate. You can use small pieces of scotch tape to glue the ends of the foil together to prevent the foil from unraveling during transportation. Now the smooth side is on the outside, which protects air bubbles and therefore better protects fragile products.Afterwards, it is a good idea to pack the products in cardboard boxes.
