Bedax sanitary silicone application

If you have decided to seal the joint between the bathtub and the wall with sanitary silicone, we thought we would present you an option that may take a little longer but makes the application easier, especially if it is the first time when you try this.

First, the old joints must be cleaned. This will be done using a special knife. If you want to save an expense and find it around the house, you can also try this using a cutter, spatula or knife. For stubborn pieces, you can also use an oily substance such as WD-40. This must be left to act, after which the silicone pieces are rubbed and the place is thoroughly wiped with alcohol for degreasing.

Another more economical option would be to use heat to dislodge the pieces of silicone you are trying to remove. Hold a blow dryer for 30-40 seconds, on segments of maximum 20 cm and then clean quickly with a cutter.

Stick two strips of insulating tape on one side and the other of the joint where the sanitary silicone layer is to be applied. Stretch and press the strips well to avoid the penetration of silicone under them.

The sanitary silicone tube must be carefully cut at an angle of 45 degrees. Finish the resulting tip with a piece of 100-grit sandpaper. Insert the tube into the silicone gun and first do a test on a piece of newspaper to get used to the application. For an ideal application, the balance between the speed and the pressure exerted must be found. Try to keep the silicone gun tilted at the same angle throughout the application.

In a separate container, mix soapy water, dip your finger in it and run your finger along the tip, over the applied silicone, to remove the excess.

Remove the insulating tape carefully, as in the picture below and as quickly as possible after finishing the application to avoid hardening of the silicone. Let it dry for at least 24 hours, preferably 48.

A final tip: If you replace the sanitary silicone because it cracks very easily, check, in the case of a bathtub made of light material, if it does not have any play and if it does not need to be stabilized.

The pressure exerted on the bathtub when we fill it with water can produce a slight millimetric movement. Unfortunately, it is enough to cause the displacement or cracking of the silicone. That is why it is good that in the case of cases made of light materials such as acrylic or fiberglass, you should fill them at least half before the actual application of the silicone.

Between applications, don't forget to wipe the tip of the silicone tube with a damp cloth.
