Remove old silicone that is damaged or moldy. The new silicone is applied, then the profiles are used for smoothing.

Always use the smooth side to smoothen the surface: 4 mm is ideal for smoothing expansion joints, 0 mm is recommended for removing silicone from joints that has not solidified, 2/3/4/5/6 mm applies to all standard joints without load (bathtubs, bathroom fixtures, kitchen tables, ceramic joints), 14 / 20 mm applies to joints bearing extended loads and pressure (ceramic tile joints, wall joints).
